Energy transport in one-dimensional oscillator arrays with hysteretic damping

Energy transport in one-dimensional oscillator arrays has been extensively studied to date the conservative case, as well under weak viscous damping. When driven at one end by a sinusoidal force, such are known exhibit phenomenon of supratransmission, i.e. sudden energy surge above critical driving amplitude. In this paper, we study chains presence hysteretic damping, and include nonlinear stiffness forces that important for many materials high energies. We first employ Reid’s model local then new nearest neighbor dependent damping compare their supratransmission wave packet spreading properties deterministic stochastic setting. The results have quantitative differences, which should be helpful when comparing merits two models specific engineering applications.
